Traveling across the US with your Coastie

As we travel across the country, Alaska bound, we are driving in a pick up truck filled with camping gear, country music, and a lot of food stores. As my husband listens to the Garmin give him directions, I am typing away, keeping billable on a multitude of projects. We stop and see friends and relatives, share in lots of laughs, and go to sleep next to each other each night.

These are the times to behold, to treasure, to cherish. Soon after we land in our new home, he will depart for a 3+ month underway period. It will be the longest I have gone without seeing him in four years.

I have been "training" to be a cutterman's wife again. His two month deployment to schools had me digging into my memory book to remember how I had coped before: pilling pillows on his side of the bed to mimic his 250lb body sleeping next to me, cooking for one, catching up with each and every friend as if my life depended on it, and anxiously checking my email to catch a glimpse of his world.

Despite that training, now I am being spoiled rotten. I smile as I look over at him singing along to a Trace Atkins song. The man makes me laugh; that is why I married him. Again, these are the times to behold, to treasure, to cherish.

I'm glad you're having a good trip and spending quality time with your hubby. You guys are going to see some amazing things on your trip, I'm sure!

You're right, by the way, it is hard to get those pillows just so when they're gone. ;)

Safe travels!
