Are the Milbloggies including the Coast Guard as a branch category? This was the list, we saw and didn't know if folks could include the USCG. Thanks.

U.S. Air Force
U.S. Army
U.S. Marine Corps
U.S. Military (Parent)
U.S. Military (Spouse)
U.S. Military (Veteran)
U.S. Military (Supporter)
U.S. Navy

This was the response I just received:

Unfortuantely this year we didn't include the coast guard. We plan to include coast guard and foreign national military and more next year, but we identified the categories that had at least 10 active bloggers. I also returned from a deployment and didn't have time to update the site with everything which put me behind on some things. I hope you understand and I hope to see you nect year. If you have a list of coast guard bloggers who are not listed in the database please send it to me and ill get them added.

Cheers

I did email him back again expressing my disappointment. I seriously wish they would reconsider.

I also mentioned perhaps this particular blog could be moved to the "spouses' category. We shall see.

At any rate, my personal (Kitchen Combat) blog is getting votes. Woot! LOL

Well, if I had to choose, I'd rather be included in something like the benefits of Military One Source than the blogging contest. That's said in jest and with absolute respect for our CG EAP folks.

I know. We aren't that vested in this contest-no harm no foul, except that it still sucks. To be honest--I've only heard about it once before. I didn't know before Monday that the contest was even going on right now. LOL How lame am I?

As for Military OneSource, I'm sure you are aware, but for those who aren't, I'll post something on that soon about how it's sponosored by the DOD.

There is a new organization in the works which evolved as a response to the military spouse's cries for Military OneSource sort of resources (www.coastguardfamily.org).

Obviously, the official stuff is still through EAP and Work Life, but that organization is up and coming to meet the needs of CG spouses.

JAGAP - I hope that you know I'm just joking! But, thank you! I hadn't heard about coastguardfamily.org yet.

We've been stationed at a Navy command for about 10 months now (and will be for about 2 more years), so not only am I not up on many of the new CG resources, but I keep hearing about all sorts of things that we're not eligible for. I got a nice stack of business card size info cards from EAP when I was ombudsman at our previous air sta. I should look into any updates that they've made to that as well. Thanks again!

No worries, :) I know. I wasn't giving you a hard time. Sorry, hard to convey that on here.

Seriously, I just wanted to point that out for others. You get these folks whose jaws drop on the floor when they are learn we are not included in many DOD things.

Navy command, eh? That must be interesting. Are you guys liking it?

You said it: *sigh*

Seriously, being left out of the "Armed Forces" in the civilian world - I'm getting over that. I educate where I can and move on.

But from a military community? C'mon....

This is becoming a very popular post. I know, I know I've monopolized most of it. Sorry! But I thought it was also appropriate to post this:

here, too. It's a Sara Smiley article about moving w/o your husband. Surely all of you who get the military.com eNewsletter have already seen it. I don't love Sarah Smiley, but I do like this article. And, I love that Waiting for the ships had a similar post a few weeks ago. Another example of how we're all the same.

I'm sorry you were left out. But JP is really a great guy and doing the best he can. Between his service, his family and his Bad VooDoo Platoon (http://www.badvoodooplatoon.com/) he has an awful lot on his plate.

If he says he will get it in next year, he will. He's a good egg.

Next year's Milblog Conference will likely be in D.C.

As far as the category you are in, you decide that. Go to milblogging.com and update/edit your profile to "military spouses".
