A new member in the "Waiting for ships..." family!

Well, a third-ish of a new member is probably more accurate. Confused yet? Way back when I introduced myself in June of last year, I touted myself as a "mother" of only a 4-legged "kid," with no real plans for the two-legged variety. What I didn't share at the time was that we were mulling around the idea of possibly making our hypothetical child not-so-hypothetical, sooner than later. We were going for the element of surprise... and I'd like to think we achieved it. Why do I think that? Because the big announcement to family resulted in my mother in law thinking we got a puppy. Yep, a puppy.

So if you haven't figured it out by now, there is, in fact, a FlyingFish fry on the way. We're early along in the process (I'm not quite 16 weeks at this point), and not due until the middle of July, but a fry is coming nonetheless! We're very excited, but, as you can imagine, also a little bit anxious at what it will mean to have a baby in a dual-active duty family.

I have to be honest, I've never been a proponent of this choice. I warn people away from it because I'm not so sure it's the most stable way of life for just the AD members, let alone a child. But the job I have now is the most flexible CG job I think anyone could ever ask for, so we decided to take the plunge! The hubs will probably spend the next 6 months trying to reassure me that he can make duty and deployment schedules work on his end, and I'll continue to not believe him, and yet hope for the best!

Looking at the bright side, though, I'm sure trying to juggle two full time Coasties' (er, Guardians) careers with the care and needs of a newborn will probably lead to some fantastic blogging fodder! I mean, seriously, how could it not!?

Stay tuned for tales of the the FlyingFish fry - and for desperate requests for help from a soon-to-be mom who has NO idea what she's getting herself into!!!!

Excellent news! Congratulations!

I'm actually due in the middle of July, too. Here's to an uneventful 7ish months!
