Happy Earth Day!

What are you doing to celebrate today---to nurture our environment?

This is a big year. Today marks the 40th anniversary of the Earth Day.

As Coast Guard spouses, we know that part of the Coast Guard’s mission environment protection. In fact, right from USCG.mil, folks can read part of the Coast Guard’s mission, not surprisingly is:
Protection of Natural Resources: Eliminate environmental damage and the degradation of natural resources associated with maritime transportation, fishing, and recreational boating.

This morning, I received an e-newsletter from the Environmental Defense Fund, in it was the following:

Oceans: America's fisheries are in trouble – Overfishing, wasteful bycatch and other threats are pushing our fisheries to the brink and endangering our marine ecosystems. But an innovative fishery management tool called catch shares offers hope. Please take action now: Tell your members of Congress to support funding for new catch shares.

I’m not one to push my ideals or politics on folks, which is why I’m just posting the information for you take action, if you see fit, or feel it’s appropriate. Read the information and perhaps you will feel the urge to contact Congress and say your piece.
