Photo Contest on the horizon.

I know that it's not for lack of excellent photographers out there, but it's our lack of follow up on this one folks. We had contemplated a photo contest last year (a second one, if you will); alas, we saw little interest.

Let's get this party started again!

More information to come, but start shooting you shutterbugs.

This spring brings two themes (prizes to be announced).

Theme 1 - A nautical, CG site you experienced on a PCS trip
Theme 2 - Our favorite, a CG homecoming type photo

Must be a JPEG. This must be YOUR OWN work. You retain all rights to your photo(s). You may enter one photo for each theme--thus, max of 2 photos per person. Photos must be emailed to justagirlinaport (at) gmail (dot) com no later than midnight on May 10, 2010. They will then be posted for the masses to vote, and vote they will! So, make 'em intriguing and unique or fun, sappy and sweet.

It's coming soon! Pay attention. We are working on a 'theme' for this year's photo contest. As may remember, we had a number great entries last year and one of our loyal readers, JulieAnn won back in April 2008.

In case you haven't seen the announcement in our sidebar, we are having another photo contest:

August 2008 Contest

Submit your photo for your favorite patriotic (July 4th, Flag Day, etc.) or Coast Guard day celebration event. Your photograph must have been taken between June 2008 - August 2008.

The date for final submission is August 22nd. Voting will commence on August 23rd.

The size of the photo should be a minimum of 640x480 pixels, if possible

Email your photo in JPEG format to us.

The photograph is of "Hilo breakwater. We were stationed in Hilo, Hawaii, and I had just watched my husband's ship get underway. He had always talked about how glad he was the breakwater was there - it really did its job and on rough days, people would get seasick just after they passed the breakwater. That day was calm, and I love how glassy the water looks on the inside."

PHOTO CONTEST - PART II; Theme: HOMECOMINGS

Do you have the ideal shot of a couple reuniting after a deployment? Does your photo of a couple on the pier with locked lips rival the famous V-J Day Times Square Kiss shot (you know the one)? Perhaps it’s a little girl running to her daddy or mom after he/she steps into view in the hangar. The possibilities are endless.



The couple in this photo was taken for the Boston Globe and submitted by our very own "The Flying Fish". She and her husband are reuniting her following his work with Hurricane Katrina in 2005. Thanks for sharing this photo with us.

Requirements:

1) It has to do with a military homecoming;
2) It has to have people visible in the shot; and,
3) It has to have been taken by you in the past five (5) years.
4) The size of the photo should be a minimum of 640x480 pixels, if possible.

Submit photos in jpeg format to justagirlinaport@gmail.com no later than June 5th. Voting will commence June 7th. Only one photo submission per person please.
